ABSTRACT SERIES

“A forty year career in the creative industry utilising and exploring various ways of thinking about and making my work has given me a practical awareness of my creative process.

The new work exhibited here is an ongoing approach to painting that uses common, everyday, illustrative symbols within accumulated layers of texture and clouds of colour that conceal and reveal a surface history.

Colours and symbols that repeat and resonate seem to create a personal mythology but are, in fact, shared by us all. As a culture we are immersed in the accumulated symbolism of our history - fairy tales, myths, religion, literature, cinema etc. to the present and beyond.

I have focused on those symbols that seem to have a relevance to myself. There is a naive simplicity to the shapes used to form paintings that are decorative, harmonious, peaceful and meditative”.
